He was born in Dare County, the son of the late Ellsworth Jackson and Odessa Mae Tillett Baum. He was the husband of Betty Burgess Baum of the home.
He retired from the Elizabeth City Cotton Mill and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Coast Guard.
Besides his wife, Mr. Baum is survived by a daughter, Norma F. Raper of Elizabeth City; 2 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, Dec. 31, at 11 a.m. in Twiford's Memorial Chapel in Elizabeth City. Burial will follow in New Hollywood cemetery.
