Darrell was born May 27,1926, at Platte, SD; to the family of Mary Isabella Butts and Joseph Petty. Darrell was the fourth child of seven born to this family. Darrell served in the Army infantry during WWII, receiving the Bronze star, Purple Heart, and numerous Commendations for his service. Darrell was an avid gun enthusiast; belonging to Sportsman Guns clubs in Newcastle and Thermopolis and The Tubb Town Muzzleloader’s. He was the Hunter Safety instructor for many years, in Newcastle. Darrell married Jean Worlding on August 11,1953 in Lusk WY. They lived and raised their family in Newcastle, WY; moving to Thermopolis in the late 90s. Darrell was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; he served in many positions in the church.
Darrell is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Joe Petty, his eternal companion of 59 years, Jean Petty; all of his siblings; Floyd, Lyle, Leigh, Wilma, Don, and Sid; his son, Russell and daughter-in-law Ella; and great- granddaughter, Abbi.
He is survived by sons, Dale (Barbara)of Thermopolis, WY; Scott of Gillette, WY; daughters, Deborah Petty of Gillette, WY; and Sandra Petty of Thermopolis, WY; 12 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and another on the way.
