William Weldon (Bill) Griffin, 80, of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed from this life on April 30, 2005. He was born December 18, 1924, in Minden, Texas, to Reuben and Alice Griffin.

Bill proudly served his country in the Naval Air Force during World War II and later became a resident of Lake Jackson when, in 1952, he went to work for Dow Chemical Company’s magnesium department. Following his retirement in 1982, he moved to Tyler, Texas, where he and his brother operated an oil field pumping service. In 1999, he returned to Lake Jackson to be near his family. Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson.

He will be missed by his wife of 41 years, Billie Jean Griffin of Lake Jackson; son, Ronald Griffin and wife, Imogene, of Lake Jackson, and their children, Christopher Griffin, William Griffin, Billie Ruth Hollis and husband, Melvin, and Samantha Odom and husband, Tommy; daughter, Sharon Lanier and her sons, Jerry Hartley and Jody Hartley; sisters, Evelyn Simonds of Tyler, Wynell Webb and husband, John, of Mt. Enterprise, Gilbert Williamson and husband, Sidney, of Clayton; brother, Marshall Griffin and wife, Bernice, of Tyler; stepson Wayne Garner and wife, Linda, of Lake Jackson and their sons, Kevin Garner, Coby Garner and wife, Michelle, and Cory Garner and wife, Jennifer. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dorothy McCauley.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at Lakewood. Funeral services will be held at the Lakewood Funeral Chapel at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2005, with Alan Stoval officiating. Burial will follow at Restwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Griffin, William Griffin, John Webb, Sydney Williamson, Roger Chapman, Kevin Garner, Coby Garner and Cory Garner.
