Ann Niedermeier Wingate, age 88, passed peacefully to her eternal home, Sunday, June 28, 2019, from her home in Pace, Florida.
On a Friday in a small apartment, on 817 N. 8th Avenue in Pensacola, Florida, a little girl was born. Hubie and Lessie Hardy already had two young daughters and now there were three. This apartment was right off Cervantes Street near the Streetcar Barn. This was not far from First Assembly of God Church which was an important part of the life of this family.
In 1941, Ann had a vivid memory of herself as an eleven year old sitting in Pastor Snow's living room listening to the radio message of Pearl Harbor being bombed. The look on everyone's face was utter disbelief. In the days that followed, it became clearer that World War II had really started.
The family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where she met Henry Niedermeier. The following year she and Henry had a beautiful wedding at Hillcrest Assembly of God Church.
In traveling throughout the many cities with her military husband, they were both active in church work. They helped in the building of the Southside Assembly of God Church in Jacksonville, Florida. Moving to Norfolk, Virginia, Ann was a church bus assistant and Henry drove the bus. She taught Sunday School, assisted with funeral dinners, and at Pace Assembly of God Church she participated in the WM meetings.
Ann and Henry worked side by side in many ventures - helping to raise her younger brothers and sisters, and giving assistance to numerous foster children. Ann worked as a merchandiser assistant for the J.C. Penny Company, and later helped Henry in their doughnut shop. Her motherly instinct has touched more than can be counted on fingers and toes. Even after Henry's death in 1990 and being of retirement age, Ann continued to keep children. She retired from the office of Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP.)
In 2013, in their later years, Ann and Jim Wingate were married and they enjoyed many travel excursions. The two of them did volunteer work at Sacred Heart Hospital. They attended Woodbine Methodist Church together. They made each other very happy.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; three siblings; two husbands, Henry Niedermeier and Jim Wingate; and her daughter-in-law, Karen Niedermeier.
She is survived by three sons, Henry (Margaret), Tom, and Steve (Vicki); eight grandchildren, Keith Niedermeier and wife Carmen, Kim Pond and husband David, Heather Niedermeier and Kevin Smith, Tom Niedermeier, Mike and wife Jessica, Angela, Christina Wilkerson and Nick, William and fiancé Laura; and thirteen great grandchildren.
Rev. Jim Allen will officiate at the homegoing of our mother, sister, and grandmother. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Lewis Funeral Home, Pace Chapel.
Visitation will be held 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., prior to the services.
She will be laid to rest in Barrancas National Cemetery at a later date.
The family truly appreciates all the visits, etc., that were made during Ann's illness.
Although Ann Hardy Niedermeier Wingate is not among the living, her influence will continue to have a lasting impression on all she met. She will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations, be made in Ann’s name, to Emerald Coast Hospice.
