He was born in Watauga County, April 3, 1928, a son of the late J. W. and Ada Robbins Bentley.
M. Bentley was a retired Police Officer with the town of Boone. Known affectionately as "Barney", he directed traffic at both Appalachian Elementary School, and later at Hardin Park Elementary School.
He was a member of Baird's Creek Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, one daughter, one son, three grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Ed, Claude, Fred, Maston and Tracy Bentley; and three sisters, Dosha James, Annie Bentley and Bessie Bentley.
Burial followed at Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.
