Elmer Lee STEVENS is the son of Maudie May SMILEY & Elmer Lawrence STEVENS. Born & Died in Joplin, MO so you might think he didn't see much of this country or of the world, but he was a traveller. He'd tell us stories about places he'd been & things he's seen. He played guitar & sang like Lefty Frizzell and he liked to sing Jimmie Rodgers blue yodels & talking blues. The family called him "Shorty" because he was only about 5' 10", and some folks called him Elmer Jr, because his father was also Elmer, but I never heard the family call him Junior. I remember him as friendly & playful. His friends seemed to be true and I wish he was more a part of the family.
