Maudie 1897 & her sister, Ethel Miney SMILEY WADE 1899, & their brother Lemuel Dugan SMILEY 1906, were were born in Indian Territory before it became the state of OKLAHOMA in 1907.
Their parents were Arthur Raymond SMILEY 1871 KS & Lottie Mahala LONG 1879 I.T. or MO or KS (Joseph & Lottie were both buried in Joplin, Jasper, MO)
Maudie's ancestors seem to include Congressman John Robert SMILIE of PA on her paternal side & King Henry II on her mother's side.
In 1915 she married Elmer Lawrence STEVENS in Joplin, Jasper, MO. They lived in Cherokee County, KS & possibly where they met in school, and mostly the areas of Smelter Hill & Schifferdecker Electric Park in Joplin.
