BRADFORD - Verna M. Barnes, 94, of Bradford died at 8:22 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2003, at St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Lacon.

Born April 8, 1909, in Princeville to Nicholas and Mary Carrigan Finck, she married Leonard Barnes on May 21, 1938, in Wyoming, Ill. He died Dec. 14, 1976.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

She attended Western Illinois State Teachers College in Macomb and had taught school in Stark County. She also had been a librarian in Bradford.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bradford and its Altar and Rosary Society.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at her church. The Rev. Robert Rayson will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Bradford, with recitation of the rosary at 3 p.m. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to her church or to St. Joseph's Nursing Home.
