OBITUARY - Daily Astorian, The (Astoria, OR) | 8 September 2005

Leonard "Bud" Earl Chandler, Jr., 73, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2005 in Prineville.
Mr. Chandler was born on Feb. 23, 1932 in Corbett, to Leonard Earl Sr. and Retha Pearl (Howards) Chandler.

He was raised in Mt. Hood, attending school and graduating from Mt. Hood High School in 1950. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Korea from 1951 to 1953. He completed two college correspondence courses.

On April 14, 1951, he married Doris Rose in Parkdale. She preceded him in death.

The couple lived in Hood River for a brief time and then moved to Seaside in 1964, where they remained until moving to Prineville in 1974. Mr. Chandler worked as a translator repairman in Hood River and all over Oregon and Washington, working out of Prineville for many years. He worked until 2004 when his illness forced his retirement.

Family members said that he loved the outdoors, golfing, gardening, hunting, bowling and playing cards. He also enjoyed raising collie dogs.

Mr. Chandler is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Bob White of Seaside, and Amy and Gary Kirkpatrick of Prineville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Mary Chandler of Astoria, and Wade and Pamela Chandler of Hood River; a brother, Norman Chandler of Post Falls, Idaho; a sister, Phyllis McDonald of Poulsbo, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his companion, Bernice Scanlon of Prineville.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Chandler was preceded in death by a sister.

Cremation will be held at the Prineville Heritage Crematory under the direction of the Prineville Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Cascade Pacific Council, 2145 S.W. Naito Parkway, Portland, OR 97201.
