Viola Fradette Henry, of Maggie Valley, NC, passed away at home on July 21, 2014, two days prior to her 99th birthday. She was a native of Michigan and moved to Maggie Valley in 1946. In 1947, she and her husband, Carl, established Twinbrook Resort, one of the first businesses in Maggie Valley. After Carl passed in 2001, “Vi” operated Twinbrook until 2005 when she finally retired at age 90. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alphonse and Rosalie Fradette; husband, Joseph Carl Henry, Sr.; son, Joseph “Joe” Carl Henry, Jr.; daughter in law, Sheila Ballance Henry; three brothers, Lewis, Raymond, and Ron Fradette; and two sisters, Leola Emery and Ursula Johnson. Survivors include, three sons, Robert “Bob” L. Henry, Alan R. Henry, and Dale R. Henry and his wife Patty all of Maggie Valley; daughter in law, Helen K. Henry of Waynesville; three sisters, Eilene Wilson (Bill) of Riverview, MI, Leahbelle D’Anna (Nick) of Waynesville, Shirley Hillyer of Maggie Valley; ten grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren. Viola was a very accomplished business woman. She was a member and former president of B&PW. She was recognized as woman of the year in 1977. She was a member and past president of Waynesville Garden Club. She was a founding member and past president of the Maggie Valley Chamber of Commerce. In 2011, Viola was honored with the Wade Reece Award, given to the Carl Henry family for their dedication and service to the Maggie Valley Chamber of Commerce. She helped found and held numerous offices of the Maggie Valley Civic Association. One of her many accomplishments of this association is the Maggie Valley Pavilion which is dedicated in her honor. She was a devout Catholic, attending St. John’s Catholic Church in Waynesville until 1967 when Saint Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church was built. She was the original member and was often the only parishioner attending Mass. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, July 25, 2014 from 6 to 8 PM at Garrett Funeral Home, Waynesville, NC. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 AM Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Saint Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Maggie Valley, NC. Her grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
