THE PARIS NEWS, Tuesday, September 12, 2000, page 8: “Gill Landers, 71, of Roxton died at 3:55 A.M. Monday, Sept. 11, 2000, at McCuistion Regional Medical Center. Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, in Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery in Roxton with Masonic services. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Landers was born Oct. 14, 1928, in Houston to E. G. Landers Sr. and Louise Solie Landers. He moved to Roxton in 1943 and graduated from Roxton High School in 1947. He married Betty Tolar Brown Oct. 14, 1961, in Blossom. He was a rancher and Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2 of Lamar County. He retired from the City of Paris Water Treatment Plant Dec. 31, 1998. He was a 50-year member of Roxton Masonic Lodge No. 543 and the Paris Lodge, Chapter No. 48 and was a member of the Texas Constables and Justice of the Peace Association. He was a longtime member of Roxton United Methodist Church and was a veteran of the Army serving his country during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Landers is survived by his wife, Betty; three daughters, Beth Gilmer and husband Richard of Texarkana, Texas, Genia Landers of Scurry, and Suzanne Landers of Paris; three grandchildren, Nancy Gilmer of Texarkana, Tyler Sugg and Tanner Hindman, both of Paris; one sister, Martha Bone and husband Bill of Paris; a sister-in-law, Nancy Landers of Lawton, Texas; a brother-in-law, Nolan Tolar and wife Jo of Buffalo; father and mother-in-law, Travis and Jewel Haley of Paris; and five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John Landers, and a granddaughter, Kara Gilmer. Pallbearers will be Harvey McCoin, Eddie George, James Cooper, Ray Scott Clark, Ralph Brown, and Harlin Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Floyd McCoin, Kenneth Springer, Jack Mason, Gene Rising, Jerry Julian, and his fellow justices of the peace, James McCourt, Cindy Ruthart, Ken Ruthart, and Don Denison. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association or the charity of one’s choice.”
On the same stone with Gill Landers. Also has a military marker inscribed, “Pvt US Army - Korea.”
