Lovey Samantha Scates was the daughter of Wyatt R. & Mary Polly Blount Scates. She was born in Henderson Co., TN and later moved to Texas with her husband, Spencer Blankenship.

Lovey Samantha & Spencer Blankenship had eleven children. They were Corilla Jane, Alexander L., William Floyd "Billy", Green Flowers, John Albert, Claude W., James H., George Leonard, Eliza A., Harvey D. & Mary Etta Blankenship.

Lovey Samantha Scates Blankenship's husband, Spencer, died in 1920. In Spencer's 1920 obit, it says his wife preceded him in death, having died 15 years before him while they were living in Post Oak, Texas. The family then moved to Depot, Lamar Co., TX after her death. Because of this information, I assume Samantha died about 1905 in Post Oak, Lamar Co., Texas. Spencer's obit also says that he was buried at Detroit Cemetery, Red River County, Texas even though his grave cannot be found today. It is possible that his wife, Lovey Samantha Scates Blankenship is buried there also, but I have no proof of her burial location.
