June Robbs Dies At Grassy Pond; Rites Set Today
~ June Thompson Robbs, 88, retired farmer of the Grassy Pond community on route 2, died Tuesday afternoon about 4:15 o'clock at the home of Jack Robbs, one of his grandsons, at Grassy Pond. he had been in declining health several years.
~ Mr. Robbs' wife, Mrs. Lillie Dellinger Robbs, died in 1905.
~ He was the oldest member of the Grassy Pond Baptist church where funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The Rev. E. Gray Jones, the pastor, will officiate, Interment will be in the Grassy Pond cemetery with the Shuford-Hatcher Company, morticians, in charge.
~ The body will lie in state in the church from 2 to 3 p.m.
~ The pall-bearers will be J.B., and L.E. Wood, J.R. Grigsby, Tip Ruppe, Wayne Hunt, Quinn and I.A. McCraw, and Garland Sarratt.
~ An honorary escort will include W.A. and Miles Gettys, Bud, Get and B. Ruppe, George W. McKown, Flay Davis, Fred Phillips, Guy Hammett, R.J. and Wayne LeMaster, B.W. Humphries, Boyce Jolly, Danford and J.D. Phillips, Albert Mathis, Jr., Louis Huskey, Lamont Hamrick, Swofford Quinn and Blucher McCraw.
~ Mr. Robbs is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Grady Hammett, of route 2, and Mrs. J.S. Bagwell, of Mooresboro, N.C.; three sons, William Robbs, of Gaffney, Grover Robbs, of Bostic, N.C., and Howard Robbs, of Kings Mountain, N.C.; three half-sisters, Mrs. Kate Bass, of Greenville, Mrs. Mallie Blanton and Mrs. Judson Smith, of Gaffney; one half-brother, Fitzhugh Robbs, of Gaffney; 28 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
