John Davis Utterback passed way peacefully in Los Altos, CA on May 18th at the age of 88.

Born in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky on August 10th, 1918, John was one of five siblings. He received a bachelor's degree in social sciences and elementary education from Penn State Teachers College in 1942 and a master's degree in education from Columbia University in 1946. As a young adult, John's interests included teaching, coaching basketball and guidance counseling.

From 1942 to 1945, John served the US Air Force, at Gardner Field, CA, Santa Ana, CA and also at Mitchel Field in NY where he served as Chief Clerk. While serving, John coached both squadron basketball and volleyball. He is decorated with the American Campaign Good Conduct, WWII, Victory Metal.

In 1946, John married Agnes Ann, his wife of 32 years and fathered his son, James in 1955 and daughter, Patricia in 1958. The family resided in Greenwich, CT. After working in sales and marketing for the Louis Sherry Company in NY, John founded Franchise Marketers in 1955 where he served as President of Hopalong Cassidy Endorsements. Three years later, John founded All Star Dairies Inc., a dairy association with over 190 members. At All Star, John served as President, CEO and Chairman of the Board and remained the driving force of the company for 43 years. In the dairy industry, John is renowned for his entrepreneurial spirit and innovative thinking in product sales, marketing, purchasing, and packaging. He was an active member in many industry organizations including serving on the Board of Directors for Stop 'N Go Foods from 1961 to 1976 and serving as "Member Emeritus" with the Tri-State Dairy Association (VA, NC, SC) to which he belonged for over 40 years.

In 1982, John married Martha Jan and raised his two stepchildren, Martha and Henry in Lexington, KY before moving to Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

John was a collector of fine art and antiques, enjoyed extensive travel in the US and abroad and made his passion college basketball. He was an avid fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats. Most of all, John enjoyed spending close family time with his children and six grandchildren.

John is survived by his wife, Martha Janet Egley O'Brien Utterback and her two children, Martha O'Brien and Henry O'Brien; his first wife Agnes A. Utterback; his children James Davis Utterback and Patricia Ann Gebhardt; his daughter in law, Betsy Utterback and son in law, Scott Gebhardt; six devoted grandchildrenJames Utterback, Christopher Utterback, Jennifer Utterback, Philip Capin, John Capin and Christian Gebhardt; and his sister Louise Magyar. He was predeceased by his brother Bill and sisters, Agnes and Rose.

John's exuberance for life, keen mind, inexhaustible dedication to his business and complete devotion to his family will be missed by all those who love him.

A " Celebration of Life" memorial service will be held in Lexington, KY on Saturday, June 16th of Fathers Day weekend. Memorial donations may be made to the John D. John Davis Utterback of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida passed away peacefully on May 18, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 25 years Jan, his son James of New Hope, Pennsylvania, daughter Patricia of Los Altos, California, six grandchildren, James, Jennifer, Christopher, Phillip James, John and Christin. In addition, two stepchildren, Martha O'Brien of Palm Beach and New York, Henry X. O'Brien III of Templeton, Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his sister Rose, sister Agnes and brother Bill.
