SPRINGVILLE'S OLDEST RESIDENT DIES AT 96

SPRINGVILLE--Marion Francis (Med) Miner, 96, Springville's oldest resident, died Friday at his home of causes incident to age.

He was born April 23, 1873 in Springville, a son of Moroni and Nancy Elizabeth Chase Miner, pioneers of Springville. He was the seventh child in a family of 15, and his father lived to be over 100 years old.

He married Ella Dalton on February 6, 1895 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died March, 1947. He married Marie Teerlink on December 16, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Mr. Miner was an active member of the LDS Church having held many positions in the various church organization. He served as superintendent of the Sunday School for 10 years, was assistant chairman of the genealogical society for several years and was in the presidency of the elders quorum. At the age of 75 he filled a mission in Northern California and later served as a Kolob Stake Missionary for two years. He was a ward teacher for 62 years and taught in the auxilliary organizations. At the time of his death he was a high priest in the Springville Second Ward.

In civic affairs, he served as a peace officer in Springville and for a time while living in Hiawatha, Carbon County. He was captain of the Springville Mapleton Camp, Sons and Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and Indian War Veterans for 10 years.

Surviving are his widow of Springville; one son and three daughters, Moroni Miner and Lucille Miner of Springville; Mrs. Vanda Jensen of Mapleton and Mrs. D. G. (Marion) Wright of Boise, Idaho; a stepson, David B. Hauseman of Tempe, Arizona; 14 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren and one brother, Paul Miner of Hayward, California.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. in the Springville Second/Eighth LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Marshall Fox of Second Ward officiating. Friends may call at the Wheeler Mortuary, Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday prior to services. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
