Retired building contractor John Schuring of 54 Abbington Terrace, Glen Rock, died Sunday morning after an illness of several months. He was 86 years of age and had been a resident of Glen Rock for the past 27 years.
John was was born at Waascens, Hennaarderadeel, Friensland, Holland. His parents were Klaas Tjommes Schuringa (1830-1883) and Klaaske Dirks Twerda (1833-1902). He married Sytske "Sadie" Jans Vellenga on 9 May 1891 at Hennaarderadeel, Friesland, Holland.
On Aug. 12, 1870, Mr. Schuring, his wife Sadie and daughter Renske, came to America in 1893 on the ship Obdam, from Rotterdam, Holland. The family settled in New Jersey in a Dutch-speaking community.
He retired from business 15 years ago. Friends were received Tuesday evening at the William Vermeulen Memorial Funeral Home, 131 Haledon Ave., Paterson. Interment was scheduled at the convenience of the family.
Predeceased by his wife Sadie Schuring, he is survived by two daughters, Irene (Mrs. Thomas) Weyble of East Paterson and Clara (Mrs. A.D.) Swierstra of Glen Rock, two sons, Nicholas J of Glen Rock and John Jr., of Hawthorne; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
