Daughter of (Robert) Glen and Bernice (Sluder) Austin; widow of Kenneth C. Smith, Jr., who passed away in 2016.

She was a 1954 graduate of Berea College and taught school in Buncombe County for over 25 years.

Survived by a daughter and son-in-law; a son and daughter-in-law; three grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Mary Chason, and a brother, Allen Austin.

Funeral services: Saturday May 18, 2019 at Etowah Baptist Church.
