Narcissa Abundez, 87, of Big Spring passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, in Big Spring.
Vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Myers and Smith Chapel. Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Deacon Johnny Arguello officiating. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
She was born Oct. 29, 1929, in Melvin, Texas, to Anestacio and Fidela (Gonzales) Escobar. She married Paulo Abundez on June 19, 1949, in Eden, Texas.
She was a longtime member of the Catholic Church. She was an active member of the Guadalupanas, a Cursillista, and CCD Teacher until her health failed.
At the age of 14, she lost her father and had to leave school to help support her siblings and mother. She earned her GED in early 1980s and later attended Howard College. Happiness was a big theme throughout our mother's life. Her house was always buzzing with activity. Mom ensured that we were always on time for school and education was stressed to all of us. Mom loved to cook until she could not due to health issues. She loved to play dominos, listen to music, and share a good laugh over coffee with her friends at the MacDonald's Coffee Club. Mom always sacrificed her needs for the good of all us and worked diligently at making her home a place of beauty and comfort. Mom will be truly missed.
Pallbearers will be Mom's grandsons, Charles Maldonado, Daniel Hartin Jr., David Jon Hartin, Abel Abundez Jr., Jon Paul Abundez, Emanuel Abundez, and Michael Clarke.
Mom and Dad raised two sons and four daughters, Abel, Paul, Dinah, Elva, Nellie, and Cynthia. She is survived by two sisters, Paula Porras and Julia Cortez.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paulo Abundez; and two daughters, Dora and Norma Jean.
Arrangements are by Myers and Smith Funeral Home. Pay your respects online at www.myersandsmith.com.
