In 1948, Amos wrote this about his family:
" Besides obligation to parents, the youngest member of a family, especially of a large family, owes much to older members. In addition to this general obligation, I think it altogether fitting here to offer these special tributes:
To sister Belle, who, alone of a large family, maintained the old home, faithfully caring for Father and Mother to the last.
To brothers George W. and Eli J., whose inspiration and material encouragement have meant so much to me.
A classmate of mine (Campbell Univ 1892), now editor and satte senator, recently wrote, 'I still believe E. J. Hoenshel was the best language teacher extant. I have never ceased to feel his fine influence."
