Unfortunately Karen became a victim in the University of Texas Massacre of 1966.
Karen was shot from The Tower on 23rd Street in the lung and shoulder- initially surviving the incident to only pass away less than a week in the hospital after removing the effected lung via surgery.
Karen's funeral was held the following day at Crestview Memorial Park in Wichita Falls.
Together with Kathy Whitman- (Karen's Biology teacher and wife of shooter Charles Whitman) they were given a dedication page in her school's 1967 yearbook after falling victims to the Massacre.
Her father, Harvey Griffith JR, was born Sept 1, 1925 and died on Nov 24, 2002. Her mother, Joan Powell Griffin, has no other information available at this time but is believed to have survived her husband- but may have passed since 2016 not appearing as being present at the 50th anniversary memorial service for Karen and other Victims. To honor her late sister Karen, Pamela named her first daughter Karen, and both are pictured attending the anniversary memorial.
