Obituary for Albert Kelly
Albert J. Kelly, age 97, of Spencer, formerly of Spirit Lake, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer. He was born on June 6, 1916, in Birmingham, Illinois, to Bruce and Rosa (Lentz) Kelly and was one of sixteen children.
Albert was united in marriage to Alice Merle Hartman on October 31, 1936, in Spirit Lake. To this union, four daughters were born, Goldie, Patsy and twins, Colleen and Charleen.
Albert worked as a cement contractor, block layer, blacksmith, welder, several sets of his beautiful wrought iron railings can still be seen in front of homes in Spirit Lake, and as the custodian for the Dickinson county Court House, until he retired in 1978 to spend more time with his family. Three months later, his wife passed away. Albert became an excellent cook and enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren.
Albert is survived by his three daughters; lots of grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00A.M. Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the Schuchert Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Albert's name.
