Shirley Stephens Collum, 87, departed this life for the life eternal on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Sanctuary Hospice House. Shirley was born in the Kirkville Community of Itawamba County on August 19, 1931 to Walter Daniel Stephens and Lucille Webb Stephens. She grew there and graduated from High School in Fulton. Shirley married Tremon Ezell Collum on Dec. 23, 1950 and they ultimately settled in the Willis Heights section of Tupelo where they lived over 55 years. Shirley loved her home, her yard, flowers and gardening. She was a frequent shopper. She spent over 20 years working at Medical Center Drugs where her smile and genteel personality was welcomed and respected by all. A great cook, Shirley always loved Christmas and decorating her home. Always trying to be ageless, Shirley enjoyed hearing what President George Bush said about his father, President George H. W. Bush at his funeral that he always wanted "to die young as late as possible." She was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church, the Merry Makers and the Sanctuary Sunday school class. Her Church was a special connection for her and she was beloved by her fellow members. A service celebrating her life will be held at 2:30 pm Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Dr. Forrest Sheffield and Bro. David Smith officiating. Private burial will follow at Benefield Cemetery near Fairview in Itawamba County. Visitation will be from Noon-service time Sunday only at Holland-Tupelo Chapel.
