Joe Read Lee, 90, of Bay Springs, Mississippi died in his home on the afternoon of October 19, 2021. Mr. Lee worked as a Forester for Masonite Corporation for over thirty years. He loved the outdoors and his career in Forestry suited his personality well.
Joe was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church. He served there in a variety of ministries, always willing to help in his quiet and humble way. He even sang in the choir, though singing was not his greatest gift! He was always a hard working and selfless man, full of common sense and countless practical abilities.
Joe was married to the former Mattie Ree McGee of Louin, Mississippi. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on October 2nd of this year. He is survived by Mattie and their three children: Donna Hinton (Don), Joe (Buddy) Lee, Jr. (Marilyn) and Suzanne Sumrall (Bill), six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Ethel Read Lee, three brothers, M. E. (Bessie) Lee, Whit Lee, and Bob (Joyce) Lee, and one sister, June Lee Burnett.
Services will be held at Antioch Baptist Church, 1611 Highway 18, Louin, Mississippi, on Friday October 22, 2021. Visitation will be in the sanctuary of the Church from 10:00-11:00 A.M. with the service immediately following. Bro. Steve Pouncey will officiate. Internment will be at the Antioch Cemetery. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs is in charge of arrangements (601) 764-2181
Pallbearers will be Matthew Hinton, Jake Sumrall, Allen Massingill, Chris Newton, Van Windham, Doug Blackwell, Danny Lee, and Monty Lee.
The family would like to express a special thank you to all the medical personnel and home care providers who assisted him during the last few weeks.
