Mr. Medford Elton Lee, “Papa Lee” 87 of Bay Springs, MS, was born July 22, 1925 in Jasper County. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 1, 2013. Mr. Lee served our country for two years on a ship in the Navy during WWII. He was stationed in the South Pacific and was in the Battle of Okinawa. He was a highly skilled diesel mechanic for 50 years. Mr. Lee was a deacon at the First Church of Nazarene in Jackson for 30 years. He was actively involved in driving the children to church in the church van. After moving back to Jasper County, to his home place, he became a member and actively served as deacon of New Liberty Congregational Methodist Church. He took great joy in gardening and keeping his lawn perfectly manicured. He also enjoyed the outdoors and fishing with his family. He took great pride in his work and rarely had an idol moment. His life exemplified his walk with the Lord as he loved everyone and spoke openly about his relationship with God. He was loved by all who knew him. Mr. Lee is survived by wife, Bessie of 67 years, whom he dearly loved, his son Danny (Rita) that he was very proud of, two special grandchildren; Michael (Jennifer) Lee, and Alisha (Scott) Lafell. Great- Grandchildren, that were dear to his heart, Katelyn, Jackson, Emily, Laken, A.J. Christopher, Ashley, and Brooke. He is also survived by a sister, June Burnett, a brother, Joe (Mattie) Lee, and a host of nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by an infant son, Sammy Phillip, brothers; Bob and Whit. His nephew, Tim Canterbury whom he loved to spend time with. His Mother and Dad; Homer and Betty Lee. Visitation was held from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. @ Colonial Chapel on July 5, 2013. A military service followed the visitation with the Rev. Lavon Holifield, Rev. Haskel Rhodes, and Tony Lambert officiating the service, with burial at Zion Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Monty Lee, Buddy Lee, Mark Barnett, Bill Sumrall, Don Hinton, and Carl Odom. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Bay Springs, MS was in charge of arrangements. 601-764-2181.
