He was the husband of Ann Pierce, Harrodsburg,and the son of the late Hugh F. Pierce and Lola Tarter Pierce. Additional survivors besides his wife include: four sons: Hugh Pierce, Jr. and his wife, Linda, New Jersey, Robert W. Pierce and his wife, Deborah, Frankfort, Roger D. Pierce and his wife, Christina, Lexington and David B. Pierce and his wife, Anni, Harrodsburg; one daughter: Linda C. Inman and her husband, Mike, Salvisa; two brothers: Charles Pierce, Somerset and Russell Pierce, Jamestown; one sister: Mavis Wesley, Somerset, fourteen grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters: Josephine Landers, Ruth Molden, Mabel Thompson and Willie Ard.

He served with the U.S. Army during WWII in Europe and Northern France. He was a member and deacon of Hopewell Baptist Church. He was a retired store manager of Southern States in Harrodsburg and funeral attendant of Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. He was a member of Gideon's International, Mason, member of Young At Heart Church Club and the Eastern Star.

Services were entrusted to Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home of Harrodsburg, Kentucky.
