Lawrence Martin, “Junior”, 69, of 80 Cook Road, passed away Tuesday evening, February 3, 2015 at Massena Memorial Hospital, after a valiant battle with cancer.

Lawrence was born June 6, 1945 at the family home in Akwesasne, son of the late Lawrence and Bertha Cook Martin. He graduated from Salmon River High School in 1964, and attended Sienna College on a full scholarship. Lawrence worked for the Mohawk Council Welfare Department, was an Ironworker, worked for Jacobs Manufacturing, and most recently as an Aide at Partridge House. He was a communicant of the St. Regis Catholic Church, and was a member of AA, where he served as treasurer for many years. In addition, Junior was a member of the Akwesasne Death Benefits Group.

He was an avid Lacrosse player, and as a member of the Valleyfield Braves, received three MVP awards, and achieved a Hat Trick, with three goals in 13 seconds. He was inducted to the Akwesasne and Ontario Hall of Fame, and played for Team Canada in 1969, when he was featured in Sports Illustrated. He enjoyed woodworking, CKON radio Bingo, and visiting his children and grandchildren.

Lawrence is survived by his five children, Mark and Becky Martin, Shawn and Andrea Martin, and Michelle and Wade Mason, all of Akwesasne; Crystal Martin, El Paso, TX; Larry Martin, Ft. Irwin, CA; his grandchildren, Jocelynn, Andrew, Jillian, Meg, Lauren, Lindsay, Ashley, Dillon, Bronson, Canyon, Hailey, Julius, and Landyn; one great grandchild, Avalee; his companion, Gina Jacobs, Akwesasne; his sisters, Cecelia and Tom Davis, TX; and Helen and Fred Fallatik, Wappingers Falls, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
