The death of Albion Coles, Jr, which occurred last night at 8:15 o'clock, was the result of a fall into a spark pit in the railroad yards last Thursday after dark. His injuries at that time were not considered serious, and the removal of a knee cap that was badly bruised, was thought to be the extent of his trouble. Other complications developed several hours after the operation, however, and injuries to some internal organs was recognized. The condition of the injured young man grew constantly and persistently worse after the first two days, and for over forty-eight hours previous to his death, Coles was unconscious.
The deceased was a son of Mr and Mrs Albion Coles, of 104 Bluefield avenue, was in his 22nd year, was an estimable and popular young man who, among his associates and friends, was regarded with esteem. He was known familiarly to relatives and friends as "June," and "June" was considered an industrious and valuable member of the clerical staff of the Norfolk and Western mechanical department in Bluefield. His connection with that company dates back several years, and his untimely death will be a matter of regret to all with whom his business brought him in contact.
The wedding of "June" Coles and Miss Hazel Atkins, of Graham, occurred but a short time ago, and a bride of only a few months is left to mourn his loss. The parents and five brothers and sisters survive their brother. Mrs C A Bradshaw, Mrs J A Whitlock, and the Misses Victoria and Irene are the sisters; and John, William, Paul and Ernest are the brothers.
The Coles family came to this place from Maryland, in which state the dead youth was born. The funeral will take place Sunday at 2 pm, with services at the Presbyterian church. The interment will take place in Maple Park cemetery.
The many friends of the family and deceased are expressing their sympathy and condolences, which are expressed and extended through the columns of this paper.
