Jess's parents were:
John R Jennings (1859 - 1918)
Tennessee Franks Jennings (1863 - 1902)

Jess was the fifth of their six children. A young brother, Earl, was born in July 1899 & died in 1902, the same year that his mother died.

Jess, single, age 22, was living with his parents in Lone Grove, OK on June 5, 1917, when he registered for the WWI draft. He was farming to help support them. The date of his birth was Jan. 28, 1894. He was described as medium build & height, blue eyes & dark colored hair. The record was signed Jess Jennings.

Ardmore's Daily Ardmoreite published the name of Jess as one of the Selective Draft Eligibles in Lone Grove Township on June 29, 1917.

One month later, July 29, 1917, Jese, #2952, was the 201st name drawn to be summoned to serve.

On July 31, 1917, Jess was one of many men required to appear for a physical exam on the second floor of Ardmore's courthouse on Saturday, August 4, at 8 A.M. Exemption claims had to be made within one week.

On September 2, 1917, Jess was listed with those men who had been accepted for service. However, he wasn't called to service.

Jess, age 24, lived in Ardmore with his brother, William Calvin, 34, & family. Jess was working as a laborer for a Texas oil company.

Jess was a new member of the Ardmore Elks being one of 19 candidates who had been initiated the week before.

News about Jess's marriage to Helen Lillie Mae (Denton) Wood was published in the Daily Ardmoreite on Sunday, November 27, 1927.
"News of the marriage of Mr. Jess Jennings, prominent Ardmore young man to Miss Helen Ward (Wood) on November 5, was received by friends yesterday. The young couple are making their home in Ardmore."

Helen had a daughter, Ywacheta, almost six years old, which she brought to their marriage. She was the daughter of Helen's first husband, Bernie Wood. Ywacheta was only a few days away from her 9th birthday when she died on January 12, 1930. More details are on Helen's memorial.

Jess & Lilly M. (Helen), ages 36 & 27, were renting a home in Ardmore. He had a job at an oil refinery. Helen was a supervisor at a local telephone company. Her widowed mother & brother, Ellen & Alvin Denton, ages 64 & 11, lived with them. The record indicated that Jess didn't have to serve in WWI.

Helen's father, James Denton, was living with them in Ardmore when he died on January 31, 1934. More details about his death can be seen on Helen's memorial.

Jess & Helen, ages 40 & 36, lived at 222 6th Avenue N W in Ardmore where Jess drove a delivery truck for a bakery. Helen was an operator for the telephone company. Helen's mother, Ellen Denton, age 73, & her brother, Alvin, 21, lived with them. Alvin had a delivery job in a drug store.

Jess, Helen, & her mother moved to California in November 1941. In October 1944 Charles Nelms of Los Angeles, CA sent news to the publishers of the Daily Ardmoreite. In his letter he included Jess & Helen's names. He wrote, "I ran into Jess Jennings and his wife eating in the corner drug store. Jess used to drive a truck for the bakery across the street from the Daily Ardmoreite."

They were living in Port Hueneme when Jess's step-sister, Nancy, & husband, Rev. Don Pettijohn visited them in September 1947.

Helen's mother died in Los Angeles on November 9, 1954. Her body was transported back to TX where she was buried beside her husband.

Helen died in Ventura, CA on March 1, 1972. Her body was transported back to TX where she was buried near her daughter & parents.

Jess returned to Ardmore where he lived near his sister, Cora, until her death on May 15, 1980. Jess died in Ardmore on May 13, 1985.
