Joshua Harvey, master bootmaker, died in 1876 and his wife Ellen Cate Sharrocks died in 1878, probably both from tuberculosis. They had five children, three of which lived to adulthood (William Frederick Harvey, Elizabeth Harvey, Frank Harvey). Their children were raised by Ellen's siblings after her death.
