Mrs. Hertha D. Ames, 87, of Hardscrabble Road, Roxbury, a lifelong resident of the Roxbury area, died Wednesday, May 16, at Margaretville Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.
She was born April 1, 1892 in Germany, a daughter of Henry and Rosina (Wessel) Drude. She was married to Carlos Ames on April 5, 1913. He died Jan. 25, 1955. She was a member of the Jay Gould Memorial reformed Church, Roxbury.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Betty Thiel, Roxbury; a son, Dr. Richard C. Ames, Ossining, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral was at 2pm Saturday, May 19 at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury, with the Rev. Robert Schwander, pastor of the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church, Roxbury, officiating. Burial was in Roxbury Cemetery.
