Edwin Louis (Ed, or “Chief”) Kuehl, 86, passed on Friday, March 1, 2019.
Visitation: 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2019, at the Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Waco, Texas.
Funeral service: 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2019, at the Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, with Lester Adams officiating.
Interment: 12:00 noon on Friday, March 8, 2019, at the Waco Memorial Park.
Ed was born on Saturday, March 26, 1932, in Prairie Hill, Texas, to Edwin Otto Kuehl and Annie Helen Reuwer Kuehl.
Ed graduated from Axtell High School in May 1950. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving for four years. He returned home to attend Baylor University, and then began his lifelong career in the aerospace industry.
He married the former Dianne Wheelis on Friday, June 26, 1970.
Ed worked for LTV Aerospace & Defense on the Scout rocket program to put payloads into low earth orbit inexpensively. Ed retired on Monday, July 1, 2002, with about 29 1/2 years of service to the company.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, Edwin Otto Kuehl and Annie Helen Reuwer Kuehl; by his daughter Kathi Lu Couch; by brothers James T. Kuehl, Andrew Willis “Buddy, or Andy” Kuehl, Jack Allen Kuehl, and Arthur Edward “Art” Kuehl; and by a sister, Marilyn Kuehl Smith; and by nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife Dianne Kuehl; by his daughter Karen Freyer and his son James Kuehl and wife Lizette; by brothers Franklin Gene “Gene, or Boogie” Kuehl of Lorena, and Donnie Wayne Kuehl of Glen Rose; and by a sister, Lorraine “Ticka” Varner of Waco; and by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and by many friends and golfing buddies.
Ed will be greatly missed by all – Rest in Peace.
