Wife of (1) August Hovi and (2) Leander Johnson. Mother of Hjalmar and Ebba. She was born in Viipuri, Finland and emigrated from Finland in 1903 with her son. Her husband August was already in the U.S, having gone there the year before. They settled in Waukegan, Illinois, where they lived the rest of their lives. Mrs. Johnson was the first woman to vote in what was the first ward of Waukegan, after women's suffrage. Her grave is unmarked but her ashes are buried in the same grave as her husband August Hovi. This was told to me by my grandmother, Ebba, who had her mother's ashes buried there.
