Matthew F. Caruth, 74, of DeKalb, III., died Wednesday, Oct 27, 2004, at his residence.
Born Oct. 21, 1930, in DeKalb, he was the son of Matthew and Isabella (Cliffe) Caruth.
Matt married Rebecca Jane Byrely (Byarley) on Jan. 21, 1954, in DeKalb; she preceded him in death in 1980.
Matt was the owner and operator of DeKalb Appliance; he then moved to Southern California where he worked for the May Co. and later for the Barkley Co.
He then moved back to DeKalb in 1979 from Los Angeles, Calif. Matt served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb and a past member of the DeKalb Moose.
He is survived by a son, Matthew (Tina) Caruth of Salem; a daughter, Isabella Caruth of California; three grandchildren, Matthew and Natasha Caruth of Salem and Rebecca Samo of DeKalb; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Caruth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rebecca; and a brother, Donald.
Funeral services will be held at a later date; Matt graciously donated his body to Northern Illinois University for further study. Arrangements were entrusted to Ronan-Moore-Finch Funeral Home, 310 Oak St., DeKalb. IL 601 15. For information, call (815) 758-3841.
