A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 10:00 AM in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Mire for Stanley J. LaPoint, 88, who died on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at Louisiana Extended Care Hospital in Lafayette.

Entombment will be in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Mausoleum.

Reverend Garrett Savoie, Pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia, will conduct the funeral services.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Petro and her husband, Joseph and Karen Mire and her husband, Erick; two sons, Steven LaPoint and his wife, Sue, and Scott LaPoint; nine grandchildren, Amy Engel (Matt), Sarah Perkins (Ben), Jennifer Rock (Edric), Annie LeBlanc (Dcn. Joshua), Andrew Mire (Kerri Comeaux-fiancée) Christine Richard (Garrett), Gabriel Mire, Katharine Mire and Lindsey Budden (Blake); eleven great-grandchildren, Sean, Shane, Seth, Steven, Connor, Zachary, Ethan, Michaela, Jackson, Annie and Olivia; one sister, Hazel Melancon; and one aunt, Leona Thornton.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Annie Alleman LaPoint; his parents, Milton Joseph and Jeanne Bourque LaPoint; one sister, Elgin Guilbeau; one brother, Ollie LaPoint; two brothers in law Stanley Guilbeau, and Elton Melancon; and one niece Dana Melancon Guillory.

Stanley was born August 1, 1930 and was a native of Milton and a resident of Mire, LA. He led a life of service and commitment to his Catholic faith, his country and his family. Stanley was especially devoted to his beloved late wife, Annie, whom he cared for through numerous illnesses. He was loved by all who knew him and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and community.

Pallbearers will be Steven LaPoint, Erick Mire, Jr., Joseph S. Petro, III, Edric Rock, Andrew Mire and Gabriel "Luke" Mire. Honorary pallbearer will be, Scott LaPoint.
