Contributed by Terry Martin, ggg-grandson and Hillman family researcher:

Ann Jones Marable Hillman was the daughter of Congressman John Hartwell Marable and Ann Jones Watson. She married Daniel Hillman on April 16, 1840. Daniel was in the iron business with Thomas Tennessee Watson, a first cousin to Ann's mother. Ann and Daniel had two sons and two daughters: John Hartwell "Hart", Thomas Tennessee "Tenny", Ann Fredonia "Nannie" ("Annie" in youth), and Grace Cora. There is family lore that Ann was aware of an out-of-wedlock daughter of Daniel's, Mary Ann, whom Ann brought into the family home and assumed the Hillman surname and raised as a daughter. Mary Ann would later marry Dr. Caldwell "Kit" Barbour. (See Mary Ann's Find a Grave memorial 123804632). That both Daniel and Daniel's son Tenny left legacies in their wills to support Mary Ann's children are clues to the strong familial connection.

Ann is known to have designed and executed a large tapestry in cross-stitch, unfinished, that depicts florals and the names of family members and prominent politicians. It is one of the pictures I have posted here. She was also a quilt maker, with one known quilt extant in the possession of descendants.

She died of "consumption" (tuberculosis) and is buried in the Marable family cemetery.

The following summarizes some information on Ann based on research by Grace Benedict Paine, a descendant:
