Wanda Phillips passed peacefully into the presence of her Savior on the morning of April 10, 2018 with her devoted family at her side. She was born May 9, 1939 in McLendon-Chisholm, Texas to Bedford, Sr. and Geneva Estes both of whom preceded her in death along with her husband, Ray Phillips, son, James Michael Phillips, and brothers, Bedford, Jr. and Terry Estes.
Wanda grew up in Rockwall and moved to Wills Point when she was 16. She graduated from Wills Point High School and on June 28, 1959, she married Ray Phillips until his passing in 2003. Wanda worked for Southwestern Bell for over 28 years as the executive assistant to the Vice President. After retiring from Southwestern Bell, Wanda’s generous personality led her to work and help others at Terrell State Hospital for ten more years lifting others spirits with her smile and gracious personality. Wanda and her husband, Ray, had many cherished friends that they spent time with including Walt Dickerson and his wife Betty and many special memories were made with their families at both planned and impromptu gatherings. After the passing of Betty and Ray, Walt and Wanda and their families’ time together still continued to grow as did love between Wanda and Walt. Their common connection of enjoying family get togethers and travel kept Wanda and Walt inseparable. She enjoyed any time to just get in the car and ride to any destination and her catchphrase was “Walt, let’s just go drive!” and off they would go. She loved her family and her effortless grace and elegance made every get together even more special. Wanda will be missed by so many who knew her and her ability to see the best in everything will be a treasured legacy that family and friends will be proud to carry forward into future generations.
