William Ritter was born in Washington County Arkansas in 1856. William was the son of John Ritter (born in Ill) and Nancy Moore Ritter (born in TN) - together John & Nancy had 12 children. William can be seen on the US Census Reports as a child in Washington County with his parents and siblings. As a teenager he can be seen in McDonald County, Missouri, when he moved to MO. to work for Cynthia Hannah (Hanna) Teel and her husband Peter Teel and their daughter Mary Ester Teel. Cynthia Hanna had relatives in Washington County, Arkansas. Cynthia's aunt on her father's side, married William's older brother Daniel Ritter in Arkansas.

William and Mary Ester fell in love and married on April 25, 1875 in McDonald County. Mary and William had their only child John Albert Ritter December 20, 1879. The young couple lived on the farm and William continued to do farming. In 1880, when his son was only months old, William was killed in a farming accident.

John Albert, the only son of William and Mary Ester Teel Ritter, moved with his mom and step father Wm. "Frank" Beard to Oklahoma during the Cherokee Strip land claiming. John at age 18 years old claimed land on one side of the road and his Mom and Mr. Beard claimed land on the other with their children and John's half siblings.

John Albert Ritter married Mable (Mabel) Hohn in the Byron, Oklahoma area. They had these children: Elmo Leon, Earl "Ike" Ritter, Mary "Sue", John "Jack", and Gene Ritter.

Elmo married Winona Mae Replogle in August 3, 1940, and had these children: Wanda "Darlene" Ritter Price, Jimmie Ray Ritter, Richard Lee Ritter, Linda Sue Ritter Stratton, and Janice "Jan" Merlyn Ritter Watts. Elmo and Winona raised their children in Cherokee, Ok.

*Darlene married Phillip Price from Anthony, KS., and moved to Federal Way, Washington, then to Auburn, WA. and shares time in Sun City, AZ. (Children: Leslie Anne Price Corneto; Lisa Marie Price Dietz; Marc Christopher Price; Lori Diane Price Dawson and 5+ grandchildren)
*Jimmie Ray married Patricia Temple from WA area. Jimmie later moved back to Cherokee, then back to WA to be near his children. (Children: James "Patrick" Ritter; Tanya Ritter Smith; Krystal Gayle Ritter Garvin; Ann Marie Ritter Baker and 10 grandchildren)
*Richard Ritter married Faye Daugherty, from Capron, OK. Faye and Richard live in Cherokee. (Faye had two children who Richard helped raise and loves: Jeanette Brattin and Brian Schwerdtfeder and 4 grandchildren)
*Linda married Brian Stratton, from Tacoma, WA., and they moved to Puyallup, WA. Brian passed away in a car accident. Linda continues to live in Puyallup and shares time in Sun City, AZ. (Children: Heather Lynn Stratton Kutha; John Brian Stratton; & Grandson - Heather's son Elliot Kutha)
*Janice "Jan" married Richard Irwin Watts from Enid, Oklahoma. Richard and Jan moved to Norman to go to Oklahoma University and still live in Norman, OK. (Children: Adam Nathan Watts, Clark Richard Watts; Whitney Lauren Watts - granddaughter: Temple Clementine Watts)

Earl "Ike" Ritter was a truly wonderful son and uncle. Ike contracted Polio when he was young and had some physical disabilities, but was oh so smart, determined, and independent. Ike owned Thoroughbred race horses and worked at the horse track in Anthony, KS. Later years, Ike moved home to assisted his mom who lived to be 100 years old. She was independent in everyday, except driving and Ike was an excellent driver. Mable (Mabel) lived a few weeks after Ike died, she was so protective of him.

Jack Ritter married Catherine Scofield in 1961. Cate had two lovely children, Richard & Sue Ciemeny. Jack and Cate worked as trainers for horse owners and travel many months each year to race their charges in multiple races across several states. They made their home in Anthony, KS.

Gene was also a horse trainer and traveled to race horses. Gene had a true love for horses. The horses loved Gene - a horse whisperer. Gene in later years moved home to be the cook for Ike and Mable. He had lost a lot of cortical vision in an accident in Denver. He could not drive, but Ike could! They were a wonderful gathering of Mom and sons in their ability to support each other. I always said Grandma was the brains! She was wonderfully smart and had a great memory. She was fortunate to keep all her cognition for her entire 100+ years. The sons were sharp too ;) I just also said Grandma was the brains of the team. :)

John Albert kept in touch with his Ritter relatives in Arkansas, even though he was only a baby when his dad died. I am aware of his friendship with his Uncle Daniel, Daniel's sons, and his daughter Nora Ritter Cobb. I have several letters that Nora Ritter wrote to John in the 1890's address to: Oklahoma Indian Territory. John Albert was also close to (Ewen) John Ritter., who was William (his dad) oldest brother. His Uncle John left his belongs to John Albert in his will. I have the paperwork from an attorney's office in Arkansas.

William lived a very short life. I have researched and found out about this young husband and father, to be able to establish and connect to his memory -the family he made and we carry on with his name. RIP Great Grandfather. https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/timeline/LR1Q-CJG
