Ann Barr Friday Obituary
Ann Barr Friday was the devoted
helpmate to Rev. Dr. Belon O. Friday
for 60 years. She was a wife, homemaker
and mother of three children. Mrs.
Friday was born in Wylam, Alabama
on January 6, 1933 to Archie Barr Sr.
and Mable Griffith Barr. She was the
only daughter with six brothers. She
graduated from Ensley High School in 1950 and Birmingham-
Southern College in 1954. She was a soloist in the choir at
Birmingham-Southern and active in student government.
She was married to Rev. Friday on March 20, 1954 at Martin
Memorial Methodist Church in Wylam. She joined him in
ministry as she directed children's choirs and chancel choirs in
several churches. She was a renowned soloist for worship and
special events because her mezzo-soprano voice was a joy and
blessing to so many people.
Mrs. Friday passed away September 16, 2013. Her memorial
service was held September 19, 2013 at St. Mark UMC in
Birmingham with Revs. Don Cross, Steve West, Dr. Burl Oliver
and Dr. Gary Ward officiating. She was preceded in death by
her parents and three brothers, Archie Barr Jr., Jimmie Barr and
Billy Barr. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Dr. Belon Friday,
children, Dr. Ken Friday (Carolyn), Lea Ann Friday Strickland
(Chace) and Rev. Patrick Friday (Hannah), seven grandchildren,
and three brothers, Kenneth Barr, Jack Barr and Cliff Barr.
Commendation by Rev. Dr. Belon Friday
Ann was truly the "North Star" of the Friday household. She
was a gifted and inspiring Mother to Ken, Lea Ann and Patrick.
In the tradition of Susanna Wesley, she gave her life to her
children and to the ministry she so beautifully shared with her
husband.
Her talent and beauty was shown in so many ways, as she
was a finalist in the Miss Alabama Pageant and was recognized as
Alabama Mother of the Year.
