David Patrick Gibson, 84, of Peoria passed away at 12:13am on Thursday, February 15, 2019, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center surrounded by family.

Born on October 24, 1934, in Peoria, to Thomas Phillip and Hazel Bridget (Fosbender) Gibson. He married MaryAnn Waller on September 28, 1963 in Peoria, she preceded him in death in 2007.

He was also preceded in Death by his parents, sister; Dolores (Ed) Klein, brother Tom (Phyllis) Gibson, and Don (Dottie) Gibson. Surviving are his five sons: David Gibson, Rick (Kim) Gibson, Steve Gibson and Mark Gibson, all of Peoria, and Jim(Kim) Gibson of Frederick, Maryland; two daughters: Shelly Gibson of Peoria and Mary (David) Bruno of Geneva, Illinois; 8 grandchildren: Kevin (Sierra) Gibson, Katie Gibson, Alexis Gibson, Tyler Gibson, Jacob Gibson, Marianna Bruno, Isabella Bruno, and Victoria Bruno; two brothers: John (Camille) Gibson and Pat Gibson, of Peoria; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

David was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where he regularly attended prayer hours and weekly mass. He was a whiz with numbers and loved sitting at the table counting pennies with his kids when they were young and continued this with his grandkids. He enjoyed watching sports on television and in person-especially when his children or grandchildren were playing. He was an avid bowler as a member of many bowling leagues in Peoria and participated in the Brothers' Bowling Tournament for over 20 years with his brothers and nephews. He also enjoyed playing bingo and taking trips to the Par-A-Dice with his wife, MaryAnn and son, Mark.

David worked at the East Peoria Caterpillar Factory for over 30 years. He attended St Joe's grade school and graduated from Spalding Academy in 1952. He was drafted by the US Army in 1957 where he served two years and did a tour in Germany.

Family was very important to David and he worked tirelessly to provide all he could for his wife and children. He loved taking road trips around town or across the country. He had a sense of humor and loved to make people laugh every chance he got. He had songs, games, and stories abound-his family will dearly miss hearing them. He was a huge Chicago White Sox and Arizona Cardinals fan.

He loved his wife, MaryAnn, with all his heart and set an amazing example of how to truly love someone, for all to see-especially his children and grandchildren. He was kind, humble, generous, loving, opinionated, hard working, and strong-willed. His family and friends will miss him terribly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30a.m. on Wednesday, February 20th at Holy Family Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 7p.m. on Tuesday, February 19th, at Wright and Salmon Mortuary, with recitation of the rosary at 6:45p.m. Additional visitation will be 30 minutes before the Mass at church. Cremation rites will be accorded. Burial of ashes will be in St Mary's Cemetery in West Peoria at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the David Gibson Memorial Fund at Busey Bank (4100 W Willow Knolls Dr, Peoria IL 61615). These funds will be used for the care and consideration of his disabled children, Shelly and Mark, who survive him in death.
