Alfred Louis Borcherding, 85, Washington, formerly of New Haven, passed away Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at 11 a.m. in Washington.

Mr. Borcherding was born March 15, 1925, in New Haven, the son of William F. Borcherding and wife Helene, nee Gerlemann.

He was baptized and confirmed at the Stony Hill Evangelical and Reformed Church. He graduated from New Haven High School in 1943.

Mr. Borcherding was united in marriage to Erna Vohs Aug. 20, 1949, at St. Peter's Church, Owensville.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Brad Borcherding and fiancee Lolita Cox, New Haven; two daughters, Kim Lapeyre, Lake Ozark, and Lisa Housson and husband Joe B., Houston, Texas; one sister, Ella Bebermeyer, New Haven; one brother-in-law, Eugene Mohesky, Florida state; one sister-in-law, Helen Bates, California state; five grandchildren, Jacob Housson and wife Lindsey, Tracy Housson, Christopher, Jonathan and Ryan Lapeyre; one step-great-grandson, Noah Allen, Houston, Texas; other relatives and many friends.

Mr. Borcherding was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul and William Borcherding; and one sister, Florence McGinnis.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II along with a sister and two older brothers. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and attained the rank of sergeant.

Upon discharge, he was awarded two Bronze Stars, the Victory and Good Conduct medals. He was a member of Hope Lodge of Washington and Hermann VFW Post 4182.

Memorial services were held Saturday, Jan. 29, at New Port Presbyterian Church, Washington, with the Rev. John Allgaier officiating.

Burial was private.

Memorials to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the donor's choice are preferred.
