Daughter of August Hovi and Hanna Toropainen, his wife. Her parents immigrated from Finland the year before she was born; thus she was the firstborn American in that family. Her older brother Hjalmar was born in Finland. She met and married Bill Hall in 1924, and they had two sons, W.E. Hall Jr. (Bill) and John Edwin Hall. In 1934, her husband Bill drowned tragically in a sailing accident on Fox Lake in IL. She took in a boarder from the Great Lakes Naval Training Station to help make ends meet; his name was Dr. Frederick Russell Haselton and he became her second husband five years later in 1939. He had three children from a previous marriage himself: Ted, Carol, and Holly. They moved from Illinois to Nashville, TN. where Dr. Haselton practiced medicine in the Melrose area for many years before his death in 1958. Three years later, in 1961, she married for a third time Everett Carl Norlander, whom she had known for her entire life. He was the husband of the sister (Anna) of her first husband Bill Hall; in other words, her brother-in-law. Everett and Ebba moved to Mt. Dora Fla where they lived for 15 yrs., until his death in 1976. All three husbands were veterans of WWI. Dr. Haselton was a veteran of both WWI and WWII. She chose to be buried by him in the Veterans Cemetery on McCrory Lane in Nashville, saying she wanted to be 'close to her boys', or at least in the same city! She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and great grandmother. We all miss her dearly.
