SMIITHMILL — Roald Morroni, 90, of Smithmill and a guest of Epworth Manor, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2018 at the Manor.

Born Oct. 15, 1928 in Smithmill, he was a son of the late Paul and Philomena (Gaggiotti) Morroni.

Roald was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ramey and a member of the Houtzdale American Legion Post 591.

A veteran of the United States Navy, he served in WW II with a duty assignment at Guantanamo Bay.

He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, meeting friends for morning coffee, boating on Glendale Lake, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved to use his sense of humor to make people smile

Roald was an owner and florist of Morroni Brothers Inc., a family-owned greenhouse.

Surviving are the following children, Wayne Morroni of Maples, Fla., Paulette Morroni of Harrisburg, Russell (Barbara) Morroni of Smithmill, Claudia (Lynn) Hopkins of Ramey, Glenn Morroni of Las Gatos, Calif., and Bruce Morroni of Boston, Mass. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Christopher (Valerie) Morroni of Thurmont, Md., Lauren Hopkins of Clearfield; seven great-grandchildren, Philip, Lillian, Olvia, Mariella, Letham Morroni of Thurmont, Md., Radek and Theoren Albright of Clearfield; a brother, Raymond Morroni of Smithmill; three sisters, Wanda Pearson and Anita Pollick, both of Smithmill, and Amelia Fedorko of Altoona

Roald is survived by his long time companion Annette Freeberg and her family, Roxanne Wasilko and her sons Jonathan and Nathan Wasilko, Charles Freeberg, David Freeberg and his son Justin, daughters Danelle, Carlee and granddaughter Isabella Rae Freeberg, and Michele (Jonathan) Ponist and sons Jacob and Gabriel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Clotilda Cornelius; and a brother, Ernest Morroni.

Family and friends will be received Friday, Nov. 30, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. p.m. at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ramey with the Rev. Fr. Zab Amar as celebrant.

Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

The Rosary will be recited Friday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
