He was born to parents, William and Lela Carter Witherspoon on September 17, 1918 in Richmond, VA. Mr. Witherspoon graduated from Bayonne High School. He served his country with honor and valor as a member of the United States Navy during World War II. He held several employment positions, retiring from Mobay Chemicals, Bayonne, New Jersey.
Mr. Witherspoon was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Bayonne, New Jersey for six decades where he served as a Trustee and Deacon for many years and was appointed Trustee and Deacon Emeritus. Mr. Witherspoon was affiliated with the following organizations: The VFW Flournoy-Gethers Post 7470, Omega Lodge No. 64 F & M.P.H.A and Omega Chapter No.60 O.E.S.P.H.A.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers, William and Floyd Witherspoon. He leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife, Janet L. Witherspoon, two nephews, Ronald W. (MaryEtta) Witherspoon, Silver Springs, MD and William H. (Kim) Witherspoon, Gaithersburg, MD; Grandnephew, James LaMont Witherspoon, Greensboro, NC; Grandniece Stephanie (Dorian) Green, Missouri City, TX and other relatives and friends.
