Mary Jane Goben was born September 10, 1838, at Ladoga, Indiana and passed away at 11:30 o'clock in the morning of January 02, 1918, at the home of her youngest daughter, Mrs. Rose King, with whom she spent the last two months of her life. Prior to this time and for the last fifteen years she made her home with her son, J. B. Cline, who resides about six miles southeast of Osceola, Iowa.

On April 23, 1856, at her home in Crawfordsville, Indiana, she was united in marriage with John F. Cline who departed from this life November 26, 1896.

To this union were born nine children, William S., Frank M., Jess B., Elmer E., and John T., the latter two of whom are deceased, Elmer E. dying on June 25, 1916 and John T. in September 1901. Besides these, two other sons died in infancy. The two daughters are Mrs. Maggie Adams and Mrs. Rose King. All the children were present at the funeral service. There are twenty-seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She united with the Christian church in early womanhood. About the year 1890 she united with the church at Woodburn. Because of physical disability she was not permitted to attend church services as she would have liked, but was thoroughly committed to the life of her Master until the end came. She met death quietly and peacefully and in accord with an often expressed desire, without pain. She sleeps the sleep of one prepared and ready to "fold the draperies of her couch about her and lie down to pleasant dreams."

"We will sleep but not forever,
There will be a glorious dawn;
We shall meet to part, no never,
On the resurrection morn."

The funeral services were conducted from the Woodburn church of Christ Friday afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. LeRoy Munyon of Osceola officiating. The remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Woodburn cemetery.
