ADAMS -- Vernon Theodore Kiefer, age 87 of Adams, Minn., died on his birthday, Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at the Adams Health Care Center.

He was born May 29, 1920 in Adams to John and Elizabeth (Sabel) Kiefer. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Adams. He married Priscilla Duren on Aug. 21, 1945 in Staceyville, Iowa. Vernon farmed in rural Adams until he retired in 1982, moving to the family home in Adams that was built by his grandfather Sabel. Vernon was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and an honorary member of the Adams American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, camping, playing cards and spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father James Seitz officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Adams. Visitation will be held at the Adams Funeral Home on Friday from 4-7 p.m., with a 4:30 p.m. Rosary and 7 p.m. Prayer Service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Music will be by Laura Freund, Maureen Noterman, and Susan Finbraaten. Soloist will be Paul Kiefer.
Honorary Bearers are Michelle Huemann, Kellie Kiefer, Ryan Sedelbauer, Lori Kiefer, Travis Kiefer, Ashton May, Craig Kiefer, and Lee Kloeckner.
Casket Bearers are Michael Jax, Jeffrey Smith, Kevin Murphy, Jacob Kiefer, Jason Kiefer, and Chad Kiefer.

He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Kiefer of Adams; children: Sandra (Kenneth) Jax of Apple Valley, Minn.; June (Lawrence) Smith of Staceyville; Carol (Michael) Murphy of Austin; Linda (Adry) Huemann of Champlin, Minn.; Terance (Carol) Kiefer of Adams; Vernon Kiefer, Jr. (Jolene Nelson) of Austin; Jack (Carol) Kiefer of Rose Creek, Minn.; Dean (Emily) Kiefer of Adams; David (Susan) Kiefer of Austin; Gene Kiefer of Wanamingo, Minn.; Rosanne (Mark) May of Johnsburg, Minn.; Mary (Mark) Sedelbauer of Hixton, Wis.; Thomas (Linda) Kiefer of Adams; Leonard (Gail) Kiefer of Rose Creek; Barbara (John) Kloeckner of Johnsburg; 44 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Kreitinger of Winter Haven, Fla., and Catherine Schmidt of Austin; sister-in-law, Ardella Kiefer of St. Charles, Minn.; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Celeste Prehatney, Angela Morgan, Bernice Kiefer, and Veronica Quinn; brothers: Roy, Fredrick, William, and Paul Kiefer; and daughter-in-law, Jolene Kiefer.
