He was born May 29, 1920 in Adams to John and Elizabeth (Sabel) Kiefer. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Adams. He married Priscilla Duren on Aug. 21, 1945 in Staceyville, Iowa. Vernon farmed in rural Adams until he retired in 1982, moving to the family home in Adams that was built by his grandfather Sabel. Vernon was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and an honorary member of the Adams American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, camping, playing cards and spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father James Seitz officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Adams. Visitation will be held at the Adams Funeral Home on Friday from 4-7 p.m., with a 4:30 p.m. Rosary and 7 p.m. Prayer Service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Music will be by Laura Freund, Maureen Noterman, and Susan Finbraaten. Soloist will be Paul Kiefer.
