Broke, morbid, loathing himself, and feeling that life had now no more inducements for him, the reaction of a long bout of drinking setting in, and dazed by the fact that all his money was gone, with no one to whom he could turn to for advice and possible consolation, E. Boyer, tired of life and holding in his hand the means of a swift and complete end to all his troubles "cyanide," that instantaneously fatal and deadly poison, made up his mind for the last time, swallowed the morsel and fell stiff and rigid on his face on his hands and knees in a bedroom at the Central hotel on Saturday, unknown to anyone.

Such is the likely story which could be told, if the deed had been done before other mortal eyes, but the terrible death is shrouded in mystery and the truth will never be known.

E. Boyer, middle aged, and well known in Revelstoke had but recently come in from the Bend and with a large sum of money had entered upon a wild drinking bout which took away all his cash and left him practically "stoney." On Saturday last he had recovered and had purchased some cyanide of potassium from Dr. Cross, which he required for trapping and killing wolves. He was seen on Saturday going to bedroom K to change his shoes, but had not registered at the hotel as engaging any room. W. Carrington the hotel porter, tried to get into his room thinking he was drunk, to rouse him, but being told to let him alone he went away. The second time he tried, about midnight on Monday, and found that the door resisted, he pushed hard and opened it sufficient to get his hand in, and touched Boyer's forehead, an icy cold touch! the chill of death. Carrington informed the proprietor who notified the police and the coroner. Medical assistance was secured but the man had been dead nearly 30 hours.

The body was found in a semi kneeling position and fully clothed. A post mortem was made but the doctors state that no test could be obtained for either strychnine, morphia or cyanide. The body was muscular and healthy. There was an abrasion over the bridge of the nose, a dint on the forehead, left side of the face turning green, but internal organs practically normal. Further medical evidence showed that the heart gave evidence of sudden death, and poison was possible by the red appearance of the stomach. The doctors stated that death had been probably caused by poison, but could not be proved and that when they saw the body, life had been extinct about 30 hours. On the body were found a watch, photo, box of cyanide of potassium, etc.

At the inquest yesterday, no evidence was forthcoming as to how the deceased met his death, and the jury brought in a verdict of "death from heart failure from unknown causes."
