June Miller Aderhold March 12, 1932-January 11, 2019
Columbus, GA- June Miller Aderhold, 86, passed away at her home in Cataula surrounded by her large, loving family on January 11, 2019.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 Monday in Edgewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary on Macon Road in Columbus with the Rev. Dr. James Elder officiating. A private interment will be held at the Mt. Paron Primitive Baptist Church in Box Springs, Georgia. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4:00 to 6:00 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Pallbearers wil be Garrett Ogletree, Matt Karr, Chris Karr, Jay Aderhold, Jared Aderhold, and Hunter Greene.
Born on March 12, 1932 to Lemuel H. and Susie Flournoy Miller, she grew up in Waverly Hall, Georgia and attended local schools, graduating from Waverly Hall High School in 1949. She attended West Georgia College in Carrollton before meeting H.B. Aderhold through mutual friends. She and H.B. were married at Ellerslie Methodist Church on September 7, 1952 and lived in his family home in Cataula before moving to Columbus in 1962 where she raised their five children. She went to work in 1970 for Jarrell, Watson and Newton, PA and retired (from West Georgia Eyecare) in 1995. June and H.B. built the home they had planned since marriage overlooking the lake in Cataula H.B.'s father had started in 1947 and it was there that she hosted large family gatherings every single Holiday and most other weekends for the rest of her life.
June grew up in the Methodist Church and attended Mt. Paron Primitive Baptist Church after their marriage. She attended Bethesda Baptist Church after retiring to Cataula and for the last ten years June and H.B. faithfully listened to Dr. Jimmy Elder at First Baptist Church on Sunday mornings.
June was interested in gardening and flowers of all types, antique glassware and heirloom linens, and she loved reading everything. She spent countless hours every year working in the family vegetable garden and canning and freezing the produce. June wore out several dictionaries working on her crossword puzzles before she discovered playing Words with Friends on her tablet! But more than anything she loved her family and many friends. She loved human interest stories and never lost her wonderment in familial connections. She was always intrigued by numbers and figuring out common denominators and number patterns as they related to important dates and she never forgot a birthday. After retiring June spent most of her time with her grandchildren in Cataula and Columbus and surprised everyone by often driving herself to Birmingham to visit her three granddaughters there! She enjoyed shopping for all of them and always took special care in choosing just the right cards for birthdays.
June was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Lemuel H. Miller, Jr., and her sisters, Sue Miller Humphries and Nancy Miller Rodgers. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Miller Spruill of Vass, NC; her loving husband of 66 years, H.B.; and their five children, Randy Aderhold (Lori), Suzanne Morton (Lucius), Bengie Aderhold (Debbie), Polly Lamon (Doug), and Patti Greene (Scott). She is survived by thirteen grandchildren, Jay Aderhold (Crystal), Jared Aderhold (Theresa), Betsy Hulderson; Garrett Ogletree (Kristen), Mollie Smith, Sarah Beth Bishop (Justin); Rebecca Toole (Mike Turner), Matthew Karr (Leslie), Christopher Karr (fiancée Kelly Oliver); Caitlin Cornelison (Brian), Susannah Lamon (Jim Witherow), Madeline Thomas (Zach); and Hunter Greene; thirteen great grandchildren, Joshua and Leah Aderhold; Madison Aderhold; Ashlyn Ogletree, Ben Smith, Seth Bishop; Michael and Jonathan Toole and Sam McCamy; Karlie and Tucker Karr; Hayden Oliver; Piper June Cornelison; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
