David O. Wiese, Sr. of Lincoln, Nebraska

The legendary David O Wiese, Sr., 89, of Lincoln passed away Friday, January 11, 2019.
Dave was born on June 16, 1929, to Ernest H. and Maude C. Thornton Wiese. He served in the military during the Korean conflict from 1950 through 1953. During his time in service he was stationed at Kadena AFB, Okinawa, with the 307th B-29 Bomb wing as an airborne radio technician. He was very proud that seven members of his immediate family served in the military, including his father who served in the infantry in France during WWI.
Faith, family, friends and football were very important in Dave’s life. He retired from the VA Regional Office after 33+ years of federal service. During his retirement, he enjoyed travel, golf and being an avid Notre Dame Football fan. He is a member of the VFW Post 131, Legion Post #0354 and St. John’s Catholic Church where services will be conducted.
He is survived by children: Rand (Kathy) Wiese, Catherine Charko, David Jr. (Annik) Wiese, Patrick (Amy) Wiese, Mark (Mary) Wiese, Michael (Lynn) Wiese, Karen (Mark) Heibel, Matthew (Conna) Wiese and John (Laura) Wiese; Grandchildren: Megan Charko, Jaclyn, Haley and Michael Heibel, Alex, Paul, Gwen, Clay, Ian, Keenan, Cole, Austin, Liam, Aaron, Laura, Ana, Addy, Colin, Noel and Harper Wiese; and eight great grandchildren. He was number eight of ten children, survivors include Carolyn (James) Anderson and Max Wiese. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nancy, who passed away March 2, 1996; sisters: Jane Sanders and Ernita, Calista and Jeanne Wiese; and brothers; John, James and Ernest “Tom” Wiese.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at St. John’s Catholic Church, 76th & Vine St.
He requested cremation with his final resting place being Calvary Cemetery. He asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to St. John’s School, 7600 Vine St, Lincoln NE
