A terrible accident attended with fatal results, occurred shortly after midnight on Monday at Hector, when Conductor J. A. Agnew, for many years residing in Revelstoke, met with his death. The deceased was in the act of jumping off the foot board of the engine on the arrival of the train at the Hector platform when he slipped and fell backwards between the platform and the engine with his legs across the rails. Unable to extricate himself, the wheels of the tender severed his legs completely. The deceased was immediately conveyed to the Golden hospital, but died before reaching there from the severe shock and loss of blood.

Conductor and Mrs. Agnew were very popular here and had only just left Revelstoke to live in Field. Deceased was a great favorite among the railroad and trainmen, and with all with whom he came in contact, being a member of the Masons, Knight of Pythias and I.O.O.F. The Mail Herald extends their deepest sympathy to the widow in her sad bereavement.

The body was brought down from Golden this morning and the funeral is expected to take place on Friday, the A.F. & A.M. taking charge of the arrangements. There will be a large attendance of Knights of Pythias, Odd Fellows and conductors.
