Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Kelly Karges will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Bushhousen was born July 25, 1932, in Merrick County to Walter W. and Argylle (Schulz) Wood. She attended school in Merrick County and near the age of 18, moved to Grand Island.
Joan was united in marriage to Allard Bushhousen on Oct. 4, 1952, at Grand Island. The couple lived in various communities until 1962, at which time they moved to Grand Island. In 1970, they moved to a farm south of St. Paul. Joan began working as a sterile processing technician for the Howard County Hospital in 1974. The couple returned to Grand Island in December 2001. Mr. Bushhousen passed away April 3, 2002.
Joan was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary #119.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Joanie Bushhousen of Grand Island; her daughter, Debra Norton and Roger Bish of Grand Island; two grandchildren, Shane Bushhousen and Rachel Dzorak of Palmer, and Michael and Felicia Bushhousen of Hastings; great-grandchildren, Devin, Cassandra and Clayton Bushhousen, all of Hastings; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Darletta Wood and Gary and Julie Wood, all of Grand Island; two sisters and brother-in-law, Carol Bushhousen of St. Paul and Janet Gardner and Rick Schneider of Tampa, Florida; and three sisters-in-law, Gert Wood of Central City, Rena Wood of Whittier, California, and Elinor Wood of Grand Island; a special friend, Howard Kleier of Grand Island; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; three brothers, Jim Wood, Dale Wood and Dean Wood; and twp brothers-in-law, Terry Bushhousen and Kenny Bushhousen.
